Through Taproot Plus, business professionals deliver support in critical areas like marketing, strategy, HR, IT, and strategy, that organizations need to achieve their missions. The Volunteer Community Manager will lead user engagement and community building efforts for volunteers within this innovative tech-enabled program through empathetic user support at scale, creative engagement campaigns, and event facilitation. This role sits on the Engagement Team, which is responsible for the organization’s online programs as well as the organization’s overall impact goals.

This job is ideal for a professional who has a strong background in community management and engagement and is passionate about supporting nonprofits through volunteerism. The Volunteer Community Manager will leverage their communications and customer service expertise to delight Taproot Plus’s network of 150,000+ volunteers throughout their user journey. Work will include bringing new professionals into our network, developing resources, events, and communications that set volunteers up for success in our programs, facilitating spaces where volunteers can gain value from one another, and managing and troubleshooting the challenges stakeholders face in doing pro bono. You will serve as the face and voice of Taproot Plus for volunteers; recruiting, engaging, connecting, and supporting the diverse community of professionals that we serve.

What you'll achieve

  • Manage the successful volunteer user experience in Taproot’s online programming at scale, from user acquisition, to program match, to successful program completion.
  • Facilitate events that welcome volunteers to the Taproot community, educate them on being a successful skills-based volunteer, and connect them with one another.
  • Consult with individuals as a Volunteer Advisor, sharing expertise and making recommendations to volunteer users on how to best navigate Taproot’s programs and successfully partner with nonprofits.  
  • Lead Taproot Plus volunteer content development for resources, articles, event decks, and more, and execution of wide-scale volunteer engagement communications campaigns (National Volunteer Week, GivingTuesday, etc.)
  • Craft engaging communications that guide volunteer users through their online user experience and manage updates to transactional emails.
  • Manage initiatives that bring volunteers together for resource-sharing, networking, and mentorship, including but not limited to: community message board, virtual networking, facilitating partner projects, etc.
  • Support our nonprofit’s efforts to build strong community partnerships with gathering points for potential volunteers, acting as a professional and enthusiastic ambassador of Taproot.
  • Collaborate with Taproot’s marketers to shape and execute campaigns that expand awareness of skills-based volunteering and Taproot’s programming and convert our users into ambassadors for mission.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Taproot Plus's most frequent volunteer users, identifying ways to optimize their experience, increase their donation value, and share their stories as inspiration for other volunteers.
  • Support the Taproot Plus team leader in translating user feedback into program improvements focused on optimizing volunteer user adoption, engagement, and impact.


Job requirements

About you

  • Passion for community management and engagement, at least 4 combined years of experience with volunteer management and/or employee engagement.
  • Strong communicator with demonstrated cross-cultural communications experience, at least 2 years of experience with email marketing and/or outreach.
  • Comfort working with online platforms and delivering empathetic and detailed user support, at least 2 years of experience with customer service and/or community management.
  • Keen interpersonal skills, ability to assess and understand the needs of distinct audiences and communicate comfortably and effectively across a range of channels and to a diverse set of stakeholders.
  • Innovative, highly organized self-starter who thrives in a fast-moving entrepreneurial environment and brings experience from launching nonprofit or community building programs in the past.
  • Attention to detail with ease connecting back to big picture.
  • Enthusiasm for building relationships and working with people, your storytelling skills help you relate to a range of audiences and your facilitation abilities ensure that all voices are heard.
  • Demonstrated expertise coordinating and managing virtual events, including content development, outreach, facilitation, and evaluation
  • Ability to work independently and virtually while working as a highly effective partner with other departments and offices and as a member of a national team.

Additional Information:

  • This is a remote position with minimal travel required. Taproot is accepting applications from candidates based anywhere in the continental United States.
  • For this role, the estimated base salary range is between $58,000 - $85,427 annually, subject to locality adjustments. The actual base salary will vary based on various factors, including market and individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process. The listed range above is a guideline, and the base salary range for this role may be modified.
