About the job

The Director of Product and Engineering is an important leadership role at Taproot and will be critical to driving engagement across our digital platforms. Our mission is to ensure nonprofit organizations have the resources they need for free. This role is key to delivering on our mission.

What you’ll achieve

Product Management:

  • Develop and own the product implementation strategy for Taproot Plus, our flagship digital marketplace that connects nonprofits and small businesses with skilled volunteers. Build a roadmap that brings the vision for Taproot Plus to life through a unified platform and a modern, engaging web experience. Own the full product lifecycle.
  • Lead a team of 3-5 internal and external engineer and UX resources. Foster a culture of empowered teams that can confidently make decisions based on their understanding of the product strategy and Taproot’s mission and vision.
  • Own the integrations with our marketing and CRM vendors, including SendGrid, Klaviyo, and our internal Taproot Plus Admin product.
  • Meet with external clients, who foster engagement among their own employees through the Taproot Plus platform. Through demos and discussions, learn about their opportunities, concerns, security requirements, and other needs. Advocate and evolve the product strategy to account for these factors, pushing back and sequencing when necessary.
  • Collaborate with leaders across Taproot—including the Senior Director of Community Engagement, Tech Ops Consultant, and Director of Marketing—to align the product strategy with the needs and work of the rest of the organization and key audiences.
  • Be an advocate for Taproot technology across the Taproot organization. Sharing updates and garnering input from the organization.

Manage Engineering Team

  • Lead the day-to-day work of our engineering team and manage engineering team priorities and capacity. Make informed decisions if resource changes need to be made. Align the work with broader organization priorities to support our mission.
  • Deploy an agile process with the team and across the organization. Ensure quality deliverables are produced by the engineering team.
  • Manage the engineering project budget, scope, and backlog.
  • Manage tech roadmap; develop tech requirements, and timelines.
  • Follow the project scope from proposal to technical work-up, quality control, feedback loop, and final delivery.
  • Manage bug fixes, blockers, and other issues/opportunities. Track, monitor, and report on this work.
